Tarballs with a proper version number (such as polipo-0.9.7.tar.gz)
are (hopefully) stable releases.  Tarballs with a version number with
99 in it (such as 0.8.99.4) are head releases.  Tarballs with an
embedded date are snapshots (stable release candidates, most of the
time).

The .zip files are experimental Windows binaries.
