Tropical Semirings
Résumé : Cet article est paru dans les actes de
la conference "Idempotency", organisée par Jeremy Gunawardena
à Bristol en octobre 1994. Il s'agit d'un article de synthèse
sur les semi-anneaux tropicaux. On y présente en particulier des
applications de ces semi-anneaux au problème de Burnside pour les
groupes et les semigroupes et divers problèmes de
décidabilité en théorie des langages.
Abstract : This article has been published in the proceedings of the
"Idempotency" conference, organized by Jeremy Gunawardena in Bristol in
october 1994. The aim of this paper is to present the tropical semirings
and to survey a few problems relevant to them. Two apparently disconnected
applications of the tropical semirings are presented: the Burnside type
problems in group and semigroup theory and decidability problems in formal
language theory.
