Lettre d'Halloween peu chargée annonçant le prochain conseil de laboratoire, la nomination possible de doctorants aux Google PhD Fellowships, plusieurs rencontres et évènements, dont une journée de l'ANR à Station F (à quelques pas de l'IRIF) sur les passerelles entre recherche et transfert industriel qui pourrait vous intéresser.

Annonces de la direction

  • Prochain conseil de laboratoire du 12 novembre 2019 - Ordre du jour provisoire :
    • Budget : point sur la subvention CNRS et Paris Diderot, organisation des dernières dépenses
    • RH : mouvements à venir au secrétariat, et dans l'équipe informatique
    • Prochains concours de recrutement (postdoc, CNRS, Université) : organisation
    • Appel à projet unique du CNRS : présentation et organisation
    • Google PhD Fellowships : sélection des étudiants à nominer
    • Qualité de vie : droit à la déconnexion, création de salle de repos/ allaitement, abonnement revues
    • Emails: restriction des adresses en @liafa et @pps

Rappel : Tout membre de l'IRIF peut assister au conseil de laboratoire en tant que spectateur ne participant pas aux débats (sauf pour toute discussion à huis clos).

  • Google PhD Fellowships

Comme l’année dernière l'IRIF a vocation à nominer 2 doctorants aux Google PhD Fellowships. La date limite est fixée au 30 novembre par Google. Etant donné le court délais de préparation du dossier, tout encadrant souhaitant présenter un doctorant en 1re ou 2e année doit contacter direction@irif.fr dans les tous prochains jours. https://ai.google/research/outreach/phd-fellowship/

  • Subvention du laboratoire - date limite 1er novembre

Il reste un montant important de subvention des tutelles encore disponible. Seul l’accord du responsable de pôle est nécessaire après vérification de l’absence d'autres crédits disponibles sur 2019. Toutes les demandes pour fin 2019, et éventuellement tout début 2020, doivent être remontées au plus vite, et avant le 1er novembre.

Actualités scientifiques de l'IRIF

  • IRIF will be hosting the annual meeting of the molecular bioinformatics research group of CNRS (GDR BIM) from 11-05 to 11-07. Locations, (free) registration and detailed schedules: http://www.gdr-bim.cnrs.fr/?page_id=160
  • On December 16th, a half-day of talks aimed at a non-specialized audience will take place at IRIF in celebration of Algorithms, the research domain of Claire Mathieu, 2019 recipient of a CNRS Silver Medal.   • Walter FONTANA (MedSchool Harvard) holds the annual chair of Collège de France on the theme “Life and the Computer: The Challenge of a Science of Organization”. Notion de la semaine

The Church-Turing thesis states that a function can be calculated by an effective method if and only if it is computable by a Turing machine. Since its inception, variations on the original thesis have arisen, including statements about what can physically be realized by a computer in our universe and what can be efficiently computed. A variation of the Church–Turing thesis addresses whether an arbitrary but “reasonable” model of computation can be efficiently simulated by a probabilistic Turing machine. The model of quantum computing could disprove this extended thesis.
