Because data are needed in order to understand which actions can help reducing CO2 emissions.

Global view

Objectives

  • Objective by 2050: Reaching net-zero CO2 emissions (European Climate Law)
  • Objective by 2030: At least 55% cuts in greenhouse gas emissions (from 1990 levels) (European Climate Law)
  • Objective by 2030: According to Oxfam, every person on Earth would need to emit an average of just 2.3 tons of CO2 per year by 2030 (assuming 7.9 billions of people on earth)― this is roughly half the average footprint of every person on Earth today → Everyone has to divide by 2 its footprint
  • National strategy: In 1990 546 MtCO2, 2019-23 around 422 MtCO2, objective for 2024-28 349 MtCO2, objective for 2029-33 300 MtCO2, and in 2050 80 MtCO2 (that is -11,5 MtCO2/year after 2030) (Stratégie Nationale Bas-Carbone (SNBC)). This goes with an increase of the CO2 absorption in order to reach 80 (absorbed) MtCO2 in 2050.

Current emissions
