Cette semaine dans la lettre, une date importante à retenir : 5 septembre journée de rentrée de l'UFR d'Informatique et de l'IRIF.

Du côté des actualités scientifiques, une interview de Leslie Ann Goldberg, oratrice invitée à ICALP 2022 réalisée par le magazine La Recherche. A lire, un nouveau document visant à aider les chercheur·es à mieux comprendre le programme Horizon Europe. Pour les doctorant·es, 2 appels à candidatures : Best Dissertation Award établi par la European Association for Programming Languages and Systems (EAPLS) et le Prix de thèse Gilles Kahn.

Enfin, un focus sur l'école d'été à Nairobi à laquelle trois membres de l'IRIF ont participé.

Annonces de la direction

  • Journée de rentrée : L'UFR d'Informatique et l'IRIF organisent une journée de rentrée le lundi 5 septembre 2022 à 11h00 dans l'amphi Turing du Bâtiment Sophie Germain. Programme prévisionnel :
    • 10h30-12h00 : Introduction des deux directions puis présentation des trois nouveaux arrivants permanents (Sylvain Douteau, Marie Fortin et Marie Albenque) et intervention de Sergio Rajsbaum, visiteur à l'IRIF en 2022-2023
    • Dès 12h00 : Pot en extérieur, en face du bâtiment Sophie Germain
  • Activité administrative
    • Pour cause de jour férié, le labo sera fermé le lundi 15 août, y compris pour les membres ayant demandés un accès pendant la fermeture estivale.
    • Reprise des activités des services de l'Université à partir du 16 août.

  • Interview La Recherche : À l’occasion de la conférence ICALP qui s'est tenue en juillet 2022, le magazine La Recherche s'est entretenu avec quelques uns des intervenants à cet événement. Dans cette entretien, Leslie Ann Goldberg, oratrice invitée à ICALP, s'exprime au sujet des algorithmes qualifiés de rapides : comment peut-on définir la vitesse d’un algorithme ? Tous les problèmes peuvent-ils être résolus rapidement par un ordinateur ? Se peut-il que certains soient résolubles mais que les algorithmes qui le permettent soient si lents qu’ils prendraient des siècles pour aboutir à une solution, même avec les plus puissants ordinateurs ?   • Horizon Europe for beginners : Pierre Fraigniaud, Senior Research Scientist at CNRS, Maximilien Lesellier, Head of Administration at IRIF, and Afonso Ferreira, Europe scientific advisor for INS2I at CNRS have written a short document aiming at helping researchers to navigate in the zoo of instruments proposed by the European Union for funding research, within its most recent framework, called Horizon Europe. This document is available at https://www.ins2i.cnrs.fr/en/horizon-europe-beginners. They decided to write this document because they had difficulty understanding the complexity of the Horizon Europe framework. If you have questions about this program, do not hesitate to ask lesellier@irif.fr or pierre.fraigniaud@irif.fr, they will do their best to answer, or to redirect you to more knowledgeable persons at CNRS.


Focus sur l'école d'été à Nairobi

IRIF is a co-sponsor of the ICTP-EAUMP School on Mathematical Programming and Algorithms - an African Mathematical School | (smr 3725): https://indico.ictp.it/event/9815/overview.

This summer school organized by the University of Nairobi took place at Kenya School of Government, Nairobi, Kenya 11-29 July, 2022.

Three IRIF members took part of this project: Jean-Baptiste Yunès (Associate Professor at Université Paris Cité), Roberto Mantaci (Associate Professor at Université Paris Cité) and Anna Vanden Wyngaerd (Post-doc at IRIF and Université Libre de Bruxelles).

The school will include:

  • An intensive course in Programming in Python, coordinated by Jean-Baptiste Yunès where the participants will learn to write correct programs.
  • An intensive course in Algorithms, coordinated by Roberto Mantaci where the participants will learn to write efficient programs.
  • An intensive course on SageMath, a free, open-source, Python-based mathematics software system, coordinated by Anna Vanden Wyngaerd where the participants will learn to apply to Mathematical Research the efficient programming techniques learnt in the two other courses.
