The HCERES days are now over!

The former and current directions want to thank all of YOU for all the efforts, energy and commitment that you have put for the success of this event. Many thanks to Jemuel, Marie-Laure, Maximilien, Natalia and Omur for having ensured the organization of the meeting and of the stay of the committee, to Juliette for the communication, organization, and presentation material, to Houy for the technical support up to the last minute technical solutions. Many thanks also to all the presenters of the poles and groups' talks and of the posters for their wonderful work, and of course many thanks to all those of you who contributed to the writing of the auto-evaluation report, for which we were warmly congratulated by the committee: quoting the committee president, “it clearly transpired that behind all the technical and administrative information, science was at the core of it”. Finally, your large attendance to the talks, breaks and the poster session was very appreciated by the committee, and has shown how much our lab is a lively place; a place to which we are proud to belong!

In this week's IRIF Newsletter, we would like to inform you that direct refunds to agents are no longer possible.
We thank you in advance for returning the badge holders to the administration team.
We remind you that Sylvain Perifel will defend his HDR on 4th December.
The focus is on the thesis of Filippo Brunelli.
The CNRS is organising a webinar on national subsidies and UPCité a Zoom meeting on the ERC Advanced 2024.

Enjoy reading and have a nice weekend!

News

  • HDR Defense: Sylvain Perifel will defend his habilitation to direct research [HDR] on Monday 4 December 2022 at 2pm in the Pierre-Gilles de Gennes Amphitheatre of the Condorcet building. His subject is L'aléatoire par le prisme des polynômes et de la compression.
  • diiP Distinguished Lecture: On 6 December, Prof. Joseph Sifakis (Verimag, CNRS), Turing Award winner, will give a talk on Testing System Intelligence. It will be done online at 4pm. You can find all the necessary information and the abstract here. You can log directly via this zoom link.
    • informer sur le projet de carrière et l’insertion professionnelle ;
    • faire part de leur expérience ;
    • établir un espace d’échanges avec la doctorante.
      Des binômes, mentor.e/mentorée, seront constitués pour une année civile et conduiront à un minimum de 3 échanges entre binômes.
      De plus, les doctorantes pourront participer à des ateliers collectifs (sujets liés à leur avenir et à leur insertion professionnelle) : 2 tables rondes (proposé au cours de l’année) et 2 réunions (lancement du projet et bilan en fin d’année).
      Les doctorantes participant à cette initiative pourront la valoriser en bénéficiant de 16h de formation à ajouter dans le cadre de leur cursus doctoral (12h de janvier à août – 4h de septembre à décembre).
      Si vous souhaitez participer à ce projet, merci contacter Claire Fave ou Amina Hariti en envoyant un mail à l'adresse suivante : mentorat.sciences@u-paris.fr

Focus on Filippo Brunelli, former PhD student at IRIF

Filippo Brunelli defended his thesis in september. His subject was Algorithmic aspects of reachability in temporal graphs.

“I think temporal graphs are important as they can find application in a huge variety of domains, since many networks have inherent dynamic behavior.”

In his interview, he spoke about his subject and his passion for graphs and algorithms, his thesis subject, and what is ahead of him.

Here is the abstract of his thesis:

Temporal graphs arose with the need to better model contexts where the appearance of interactions or connections depends on time, such as epidemic propagation or transport networks. While classical notions such connectivity and shortest paths have been extensively studied in static graphs there is still room for improvement in the temporal case.
