Direction's announcements

  • [REMINDER] Project Deadline: the deadline International Researcher Invitations is approaching: March 13th. It is very important that there are many applications issued from IRIF since the number of missions awarded by the university is proportional to the number of applications. You you can apply through this Limesurvey link. All the information needed can be found in this 2023 Vademecum.
  • [REMINDER] Internships: all information about internship agreements and how to fill them is available here.
  • The rooms 3063, 3071, 4071 and 4071a are now open and can be booked and used by everyone. These rooms are not equipped yet, if you bring your own furniture please take it back once finished.
  • Webcontrat: all IRIF members who wish to host a research project at CNRS should have an access to Webcontrat. If this is not the case you can request this on this platform. Do notbhesitate to contact secretariate if help is needed.
  • Missions: please always take exchangeable and refundable tickets and hotel bookings on the Notilus platform. In case of bug, which regularly occur, the booking confirmation is not sent but the lab still has to pay.

News

  • “Horizon Maths” conference”: This conference series allows exploring the applications and interactions of mathematics around a different theme for each edition. The next topic is: Mathematical Proof and Software Reliability. Organized under the direction of Hugo Herbelin (Inria, IRIF), it will take place on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from 9 am to 6 pm, at the Henri Poincaré Institute (5 rue Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris 5th), Hermite Amphitheater.
  • Thematic schools: The thematic schools campaign for 2025 has been launched. To submit a project, you must send your statement of intent to IFSEM before March 15, 2024. You can find more information on this document. The guide for developing a thematic school as well as all document templates to be submitted are downloadable on the HRD website.

Equalities comittee

  • International Day of Women's Rights: the 8th of March is the International Day of Women's Rights. Two IRIF researchers give us an insigh about how it is to have such a position in male dominated field, computer science :
    • Mariana Milicich, PhD student : “One way is to understand when and why this lack of women in computer science started, to help reverse the stereotypes that may create the barriers girls could have. […] Additionally, pursuing a career in research is challenging, and I believe it can be even more difficult for women. Therefore, we should question and improve the academic system globally.”
    • Monika Csikos, associate professor: “[…] during my masters internship, my supervisor interacted with me in a fair, professional way, and granted me respect and trust in my research abilities. This was a very impactful experience for me and surely contributed to me pursuing a PhD.
  • [REMINDER] Sexist & sexual violence - 2nd webinar: On Thursday, March 14th, 2024, the L’Oréal and IPSOS Foundation, ENS Paris-Saclay, and the L'Oréal Foundation are organizing a webinar on “violencemeter” (violentomètre) at 7 pm. You can register on this link.
  • [REMINDER] Théâtre Forum : Organized by UPCité's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion mission and the College of Doctoral Schools a forum theatre session entitled “Ce qu'il en coûte” (What it costs) by the SYNERGIES company will take place on Monday 11 March from 12:00 to 14:00 in Amphi Turing. The theme of the play is identifying and preventing bullying and harassment in the doctoral student/thesis supervisor relationship. Please send an email to mentorat.sciences@u-paris.fr to register.

IRIF & Environnement

  • The OSU-EFLUVE (Observatoire des Sciences de l'Univers) is organizing its first Environmental Evening on Planetary Boundaries in partnership with the Cinemas of Palais de Créteil. You are invited to participate in the debate in the presence of Christophe Cassou, climatologist and CNRS research director, and Thomas Wagner, author of the BonPote blog and co-author of the book “Tout comprendre (ou presque) sur le climat” published by CNRS Éditions. The event will take place on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 8 pm to 10 pm, with the doors opening at 7:45 pm. This free event is open to all, but registration is mandatory.
